The Keywing is available VAT free for eligible customers.
The UK Government offers VAT relief on goods purchased for a disabled person. The scheme allows VAT to be zero rated, providing certain conditions and criteria are met.
Many of our customers are eligible for VAT relief (a reduction of approximately 17% on the list price at the current standard VAT rate of 20%) and we encourage you to do this when appropriate as it is under an approved scheme by HMRC. Our website is set up to make this straight forward, however you must be sure that you are eligible to claim VAT exemption - there are penalties for false declarations - so please read the information below carefully.
The HMRC website has full details on the criteria and conditions regarding VAT relief should you require further clarification or information. Click here to visit the Government page on VAT for disabled people section. That also has links to other financial help if you are disabled.
Who is eligible to claim VAT relief?
In brief VAT relief is eligible if the following two criteria are met, and you are either a registered charity or an individual who is buying the goods for non-commercial purposes:
The person who will be using these goods is chronically sick or disabled
The products are acquired for a person’s own personal or domestic use.
The HMRC definitions of this chronically sick or disabled are:
“a physical or mental impairment which has long term and substantial adverse effect upon the ability to carry out everyday activities”
“a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness
Please note if you are buying goods on behalf of another person and wish to claim VAT relief we will ask you for some personal details regarding the individual you are buying for.
Please note: you are making a self-declaration. Employees of Keywing / Workey Limited are not medical experts or practitioners. They cannot advise you in this matter.
How do I claim VAT Relief?
In order to waive VAT on an eligible purchase, the government requires a simple declaration to be made as to the nature of your disability and/or chronic illness at the time of ordering. No proof of your disability needs to be shown to any party at any time. We don't need a doctor's letter or any reference numbers.
We will retain details of customers who have qualified for VAT relief and share this with the HMRC if requested.
